Utilize this guide to provide a checklist. Progress over the 10 steps, checking off the items while you go…(It really works!)

1. Be engaged through the portrait process.

2. Start planning and evaluating the photographers where you live now. You can’t ever start too early. At Darkershadesofbrown Photography, the earlier the senior is photographed, the higher the savings.

3. Don’t feel pressured to work with the school’s contracted photographer. It’s possible for your daughter or son to be in the school’s yearbook. We submit photos to every one of the area schools including Scranton High School, Abington Heights high school and Dunmore High School

4. Visit any studio you are considering, and check out the portraits they’ve taken. You’ll quickly decide which is best suited towards your taste. You may also check our our blog to become familiar with the kind of work we do

5. Don’t limit yourself geographically; don’t hesitate to drive a little farther for the portraits and service you deserve. After all, this is once in a lifetime event.

6. Consult with the Darkershadesofbrown Photography studio staff and ask questions! Do this prior to the actual photo session.

7. Evaluate what precisely you’ll receive for the investment. Look for a pricing structure that you’ll be pleased with.

8. Be thoroughly happy with your portraits. If something isn’t everything you expected, please ask why.

9. Look in the senior area of you yearbook from your previous year. Look for photographs whose quality jump out and whose poses you want. Ask those seniors where they had their portraits taken.

10. Encourage your daughter or son to be creative and enjoy yourself! After all, that’s what it is supposed to be about!

Q Who should you choose?

ANSWER: One of the area’s finest senior photographers is actually in your backyard. For over 8 years, Darkershadesofbrown Photography has been on the forefront of technology for the best creative senior portraits. We attend lectures, seminars and workshops to keep pace with the latest trends in senior portrait photography. We are superb at posing and lighting your highschool senior, but one of our best abilities is making your senior feel relaxed in front of our camera.

Q Why do schools have got a contract photographer?

ANSWER: Contracting one photographer makes it easier for the school to get photographs of dances, sporting events, band ensembles, and graduation pictures.. It simplifies it for your school, however it’s definitely not a good choice for students wanting high-quality senior portraits. All of our seniors visit us mainly because they elect to, even if they are contracted to other studios.

Q Who submits the senior portrait for the yearbook advisor for use in the yearbook?

ANSWER: Darkershadesofbrown Photography! We are aware of the specifications and deadlines for submitting yearbook pictures for all of the area high schools. Senior pictures happen to be our business for upwards of 8 years. Getting each individual student’s yearbook picture delivered by the due date and to the appropriate person, is our first concern.

Q What makes Darkershadesofbrown Photography unique?

ANSWER: In our own opinion, it really is everything we do. From the time you call for making a free consultation, to the time you receive the final order, Darkershadesofbrown Photography will shower you with personal, friendly and helpful service. We understand the significance of senior portraits. Daniel Lanton from Darkershadesofbrown Photography photographs each senior personally. He has an amazing personality which makes your experience one to remember.

Q When can I schedule my senior portrait appointment?

ANSWER: As opposed to what most parents think, SENIOR PORTRAITS ARE NOT TAKEN IN THE SENIOR YEAR! Because the deadline for submitting the yearbook portrait is in the fall, most seniors are photographed in the summertime prior to beginning their senior year. If however, you happen to be thrift conscious, and would like to save big money, schedule your daughter or son to be photographed in April, May or June of their junior year. The best buys are before our peak season in the summer months. The earlier your senior is photographed, the greater amount of money you save. Your daughter or son will not change much between now and July, however, your savings will! Call Darkershadesofbrown Photography and ask about our Early booking specials.

Q How much should I be ready to spend on SENIOR portraits?

ANSWER: Regardless of whether you place a larger order or a small one, you will be surprised by our pricing schedule. Price is a significant issue, bear in mind, if you choose a photographer who takes mediocre pictures that you are not proud of, any money spent is waste. Don’t let that take place!  Every one of our finished photographs are fully retouched, which means we remove blemishes and soften underneath the eyes.

Q How about a pre-appointment escape to Darkershadesofbrown Photography?

ANSWER: We encourage you to come by for a pre-appointment journey to our studio. During your visit, we will also supply you with a tour of the studio, inform you of our pricing, and answer any questions you might have.

Remember, you’ve got the right to pick the senior photographer which you want. By law, no individual or organization can tell you where you can spend your hard-earned dollars.  Your son or daughter’s senior portrait is extremely important. It follows them for the remainder of their life, so think about your options carefully.

Q What if I have a lot more questions?

You really are extremely important to us. Please call (570) 955-7585 or click the button below to contact us via email.

What to wear to your Scranton Senior Portrait Session

What to wear to your Scranton Senior Portrait Session

High school seniors in the Scranton PA area typically have a few questions for us about what to wear to your Scranton senior portrait session. For the most part I leave that up to you, but there are some rules you should try to stick to. Some of these rules are somewhat humorous and some of them are rather practical, but this will guide you through a session with Darkershadesofbrown Photography fairly well.

Senior Pictures Scranton Clothing Options

1.) DO wear comfortable clothes that won’t drive you to tears if you get a little dirt on them!

2.) DO wear clothes that represent a normal “slice of life”

3.) DO wear clothes that are “you”…you don’t need to dress up to impress us!

4.) DO feel free to browse through your favorite catalogs for dress inspiration; JCrew, Gap, Bannana Republic, Urban Outfitters, Etc. all have fantastic catalogs!

5.) DO NOT wear crazy patterns, big bold logos, or type. A good general rule is if you can see any of the above from 20 feet away it’s too much!

6.) DO NOT clash colors..neon pink and sage green don’t go together in any universe. If possible try to stay in the same color families.

Ladies: Start by getting plenty of sleep the night before. Tired and baggy eyes will show up in the final images. On the day of your portrait session, be sure to apply your makeup the same way you would on any other day. It’s usually not a good idea to try out something new right before having your pictures taken. We want your images to be a true reflection of you! Consider bringing lipstick, powder, hair clips and a pocket mirror with you to have on hand during the portrait session. Applying lipstick (even if you don’t typically wear lipstick) will help your lips standout. Dry, chapped lips never look good in high resolution photographs! Your hands will probably be in a few of the images so consider doing your nails right before your portrait session. Along with that, kicking off your shoes can be a fun way to shake up the look of the images so you may want to get a pedicure too. Don’t be caught by surprise with chipped or worn out nail polish!

We recommend bringing at least two outfits. Most senior girls change into three or four outfits during their session. Select a wardrobe that can be coordinated together (for example, pants that look good with two or three different shirts, etc.)

Guys: Consider getting a haircut a few days before the session. On the day of the session, shave and comb your hair. Get ready for the portrait session like you’re planning to meet someone important or special. It’s tough to capture great senior pictures if you show up with “bed head” (yes, it happens!) or if you haven’t changed your clothes in a few days. Bring at least one extra change of clothes. We totally understand that most guys don’t want to change multiple times, but you should have at least one extra shirt and pants on hand. While we want you to wear clothes you feel comfortable in, keep in mind that your mom, grandmother and the rest of your family may want to display a few of the photographs from your session. Bring at least one reasonably conservative set of clothes so that everyone is happy!

Yes, yes and yes! Bring along anything that represents you – Be sure to bring someone along to help if you bring a pet.

Of course! In fact, we will reduce the cost of the session for each person who tags along for senior portraits. Bring a friend and the session fee is reduced to $50 for each of you! Bringing friends along is a fun way to make your senior portrait session special.

Of course! Senior portrait sessions take place in grungy alleys, around old buildings, and in beautiful outdoor locations! We specialize in creating stunning images that match your personality and style. Tell us about your favorite spot or pick one of ours.

We would be glad to come to your home if you wish!

Yes, we have a full service studio; however we prefer to shoot senior portraits on location. Our style is designed around capturing amazing senior portraits in unique environmental locations!

You bet! Several area high schools require students to provide a yearbook photo. We would be glad to retouch your favorite photograph from your portrait session and send it to your high school for the yearbook. Each school district may require something different so be sure to bring along their specifications so we can forward it on to them.

Have more questions? Feel free to call us or send us an email.

What comes next is our definitive guide for clothing for your senior pictures. It may seem like a lot of information, but if you want the most out of your pictures we highly suggest you style your session accordingly. There are basically six styles you can run with for your pictures and all of them are highlighted for you below.

Mistake #6: Picking a bad photographer

Be sure you schedule with the proper studio. We occasionally need a chance to work out how we should take your pictures. Regardless of whether you failed to get enough sleep, or you’d like to have more time to collect your outfits, or maybe you experienced a fight with a girlfriend or boyfriend, etc… let us know.

Mistake #7: Digital cameras are usually not professional cameras!

Digital cameras usually are not professional! I realize that it can be popular to suggest to your own parents, “Geez, it’s really just a photo – I can take it myself!” Well, be sure to recognize that a professional portrait is professional for one reason. Our company has been in business for over 8 years with our studio in Senior Portrait Studio in Scranton PA. We have been running a business this long because photography is our passion and we always try to get complete customer happiness.

Major Mistake #8: Being shy will surely hurt your beautiful smile

Everybody is able to spot a nervous or shy smile. On the other hand, everyone wants to look at the gorgeous smile behind the nervous or shy one. This might be the biggest thing you’ve got to take into consideration..

Be natural – being natural is considered the most beautiful aspect of you.

Mistake #9: We’re not able to say this enough…

Choose the correct photographer and studio that will not manhandle or rush you into and out of their doorstep. Darkershadesofbrown Photography will guide and assist you by their words and does not grab or poke you. You should feel relaxed while having portraits and in case someone is touching you to tell you about what direction to go, well, that doesn’t sound comfortable and we’re fairly certain this doesn’t feel comfy.

With well over 8 years experience you can be confident Darkershadesofbrown Photography knows what they are doing. Your senior portraits will likely be on hand forever. Try and get the best quality images and experience you can.
